Frequently asked questions

What is the MTN MoMo Uganda daily withdrawal cap?
UGX 5,000,000 per calendar day (00:00 to 23:59 EAT) at an agent, for a full-KYC account. This includes all withdrawal transactions cumulated over the day. For higher amounts, plan over multiple days or use wallet-to-bank (no specific daily cap).
What is the ATM cap?
UGX 1,000,000 per MTN MoMo ATM withdrawal. Above, only an agent can process. The cumulative daily ATM cap may be lower depending on the bank operating the ATM.
What are the KYC tiers in Uganda?
Three main tiers. Tier 1 (basic registration with phone number only): strict limits, ~UGX 200,000/day. Tier 2 (Uganda national ID + selfie): standard cap, the most common. Tier 3 (national ID + address + proof): maximum caps, required for business accounts.
What is the MoMo balance cap?
UGX 5,000,000 maximum on a Tier 2 Uganda account. Business accounts (Tier 3) have higher caps negotiated case by case. If you receive a transfer that exceeds your balance cap, the transaction will be rejected — the balance will display capped.
How do I upgrade from Tier 1 to Tier 2?
Go to an MTN service point (or MTN MoMo centre) with your Uganda national ID and registered phone. The agent does full KYC (ID scan + biometric selfie) and unlocks Tier 2 in a few minutes. Free.
