How receiving works in Ghana
The rail that credits the wallet. In Ghana, money is credited via GhIPSS Instant Pay (GIP), the national instant rail linking MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AT Money to each other and to banks. It delivers funds to the mobile wallet in real time after conversion to cedi.
The real cost: moving the funds out. Receiving is free and, since the E-Levy was repealed on 2 April 2025, there is no longer a state tax on transfers. What remains is the cost of cashing out at an agent — free under GH₵50, about 1% after, capped above GH₵2,000; detailed on the Ghana fees page.
Limits and receive flow. Apps like Sendwave and LemFi deliver straight to the MTN MoMo wallet; the per-inbound-transfer cap is around GH₵15,000 and the wallet balance is capped. Keeping the money on the wallet to pay avoids any cash-out fee.
