IMTT (Intermediated Money Transfer Tax)

Levy active

Zimbabwe charges IMTT on electronic transfers: 2% on USD transfers and 1.5% on ZiG (ZWG) transfers — the ZiG rate was cut from 2% in the 2026 National Budget. It applies to sends/transfers (not cash-out), is exempt under about US$5, and is capped at US$10,150 on transactions over US$500,000. The operator collects it for ZIMRA, separate from its own fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Zimbabwe have two currencies (USD and ZiG)?
Zimbabwe runs the US dollar (USD) and the ZiG (Zimbabwe Gold, code ZWG, introduced April 2024) side by side. Most transactions exist in both currencies, with different fees and different tax. The calculator above is in USD — the dominant currency and the only one whose EcoCash tariffs are publicly published.
What is the IMTT tax in Zimbabwe?
IMTT (the transfer tax) is 2% on USD transfers and 1.5% on ZiG transfers (cut from 2% in the 2026 Budget). It applies to sends, not cash-out, is exempt under about US$5, and is capped at US$10,150 on transactions over US$500,000. The operator collects it for ZIMRA, on top of its own fee.
How much does EcoCash charge in USD?
EcoCash charges about 1.3% to send in USD (plus the 2% IMTT above US$5, max US$500) and 1.7% to cash out for registered accounts (free for unregistered). Diaspora remittances cash out free, in guaranteed USD cash. EcoCash's ZiG tariffs, and OneMoney/InnBucks tariffs, are not publicly published.
What is the ZiG parallel (black market) rate?
The official RBZ rate is about 26.8 ZWG per US$1, while the parallel market sits around 33-34 ZWG — roughly a 28% premium. It is an indicative figure (not a live feed) — see the Zimbabwe parallel-rate page for the breakdown and its status.
