Mobile money charges in Tanzania 2026 (Ada za M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel)

Tanzanian mobile money charges have two layers: the operator's published fee (per band per operator, already tax-inclusive of 10% excise + 18% VAT), and the government withdrawal levy on agent cash-out — banded from TSh 10 up to TSh 2,000. Sending money carries no levy; what was scrapped in October 2022 was the transfer levy, not the withdrawal levy.

Frequently asked questions

How is the all-in cost computed?
operator_fee × 1.10 (excise) × 1.18 (VAT) = operator_fee × 1.298. That's the multiplier on every fee — send, withdraw, bill-pay.
Why does Mixx by Yas show a TSh 50 reversal fee?
That's the published Yas transaction-reversal service fee for legitimate reversals — covering the operational cost of debiting the wrong recipient's wallet and re-crediting yours.
