How the eWallet PIN is generated
Each eWallet send produces two SMS on the recipient side: a notification with the amount and sender name, and a separate SMS with a 5-digit PIN generated by FNB. The PIN is unique per transaction — not reusable across sends.
Lost PIN: re-issue from the sender
- The sender (FNB customer) dials *140*321#, picks 'eWallet', then 'Resend PIN'.
- The menu lists pending eWallets; pick the relevant transaction and confirm with your banking PIN.
- A new SMS PIN is sent to the recipient; the old PIN is auto-invalidated.
PIN security
- NEVER share the PIN over a phone call: a fraudster can intercept and withdraw before the legitimate recipient.
- The FNB ATM asks for both the recipient's cellphone number AND the 5-digit PIN — one without the other is not enough.
- The PIN expires at the same time as the eWallet (14 days). No need to change it; a new one is generated on the next send.
Frequently asked questions
Does the recipient need to create a PIN?
No. The 5-digit PIN is auto-generated by FNB at send time and SMSed. The recipient uses this PIN as-is at the ATM.
PIN lost — what to do?
The sender dials *140*321#, picks 'eWallet' then 'Resend PIN', identifies the transaction, and a new PIN is SMSed to the recipient. The old one is auto-invalidated.
Can the same PIN be used twice?
No. Each send generates a unique PIN. A PIN only works for the transaction that generated it.
