Namibia mobile money transaction limits

Wallet caps in Namibia: nearly every cardless wallet is limited to N$5,000 per day (a legacy of the simplified KYC threshold). To go higher you need full-KYC verification in branch — not an in-app upgrade.

Standard caps by wallet

  • FNB eWallet — N$5 000/day, N$5 000 per send (some legacy accounts still cap at N$2,000).
  • Standard Bank Blue Wallet — N$5 000/day, N$5 000 per send.
  • Bank Windhoek EasyWallet — N$5 000/day, N$5 000 per send.
  • MTC PayTodaycap depends on the MTC KYC tier and partner; verify at an MTC shop or via customer care.

Where the N$5,000 cap comes from

The N$5,000 threshold inherits from the Simplified KYC authorised by the Bank of Namibia: below this, opening the wallet doesn't require full banking KYC (just a cellphone and an ID). Above, the operator must collect and verify additional documents (address, source of funds).

How to go above

Lifting N$5,000 → N$10,000+ requires full KYC at the branch of the bank that holds the wallet (FNB, Standard Bank or Bank Windhoek). Bring: original ID, recent proof of address (< 3 months), and proof of income if requested. The new cap applies within 1-3 business days.

For larger recurring amounts (rent, salary, supplier), a bank-to-bank EFT or NamPay transfer is generally simpler than lifting the eWallet cap.

Frequently asked questions

Why N$5,000 everywhere?
It's the Simplified KYC threshold authorised by the Bank of Namibia: below it, wallet opening without full KYC; above it, documentary verification in branch is required.
Is the monthly cap separate from the daily one?
Not formally. The implicit monthly cap is N$5,000 × business days ≈ N$25,000 per month for a standard-cap wallet. To go beyond, full KYC at branch.
