Send from Orange Money to MVola (and back) in Madagascar

In Madagascar, sending from Orange Money to MVola — or to Airtel Money — works thanks to full interoperability between operators. Routing is by the recipient number's prefix: 034 and 038 for MVola (Telma), 032 and 037 for Orange, 033 for Airtel. Here is how to do it, and the point to watch on the cross-operator rate.

How to send from Orange Money to MVola

From your Orange line, dial #144# to open the Orange Money menu, choose money transfer (the usual path is #144#1#), enter the recipient's MVola number (prefix 034 or 038), the amount, then confirm with your PIN. Once the prefix is recognised, routing to the other operator is automatic — there is no extra step for you.

Check the prefix BEFORE you confirm: a 034 or 038 is MVola, a 033 is Airtel, a 032 or 037 stays Orange (same network). Picking the wrong operator does not block the send — the money goes to whoever actually holds the number you dialled. If it is the NUMBER that is wrong, the money reaches someone else: see our 'wrong transfer' page.

The reverse: from MVola or Airtel to Orange Money

It is two-way. From MVola, open the #111# menu, choose transfer and enter an Orange number (032 or 037). From Airtel Money, use Airtel's mobile-money menu. The exact codes for each operator are gathered on our Madagascar USSD codes page — here we show only the Orange path, which is our starting point.

In every case the principle is the same: it is the destination number's prefix that decides which operator is credited, not the menu you use. Always identify the recipient's operator with the prefix page before a large send.

The cross-operator rate can differ

Important: the rate for a transfer 'to another operator' can differ from a same-network transfer. Before sending a large amount from Orange to MVola, check the cross-operator schedule on the relevant fee page — we do not duplicate the band tables here; they live on the Orange and MVola fee pages, kept up to date.

The per-operation cap is 20 million ariary whichever way the transfer goes; above that, you must split it. See our limits page for the detail.

Confirming the money arrived

The recipient gets a confirmation SMS. On your Orange side, you can check your balance after sending with #144*52# (Orange Money balance check, per operator support). On the MVola side, the recipient checks their balance via #111#. If in doubt on a large amount, just ask the recipient to confirm receipt before treating the operation as done.
