Ghana MoMo limits: KYC tiers, daily caps and how to upgrade
Your MoMo transaction limits in Ghana depend on your verification (KYC) level. Minimum KYC caps at GH₵3,000/day, medium at GH₵15,000/day, and enhanced (with a Ghana Card) up to GH₵50,000/day. Here is how to upgrade and clear a 'limit reached' message.
The KYC tiers and their caps
Mobile money in Ghana follows the Bank of Ghana e-money categories. The more complete your identity verification, the higher your caps.
| Tier | Daily cap | Monthly cap |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum KYC | GH₵3,000 | GH₵6,000 |
| Medium KYC | GH₵15,000 | GH₵30,000 |
| Enhanced KYC (Ghana Card) | GH₵50,000 | no monthly cap |
Caps verified against MTN Ghana KYC tiers and the Bank of Ghana e-money categories. Operators may adjust these thresholds on regulatory notice.
The upgrade path
To raise your limits, move to a higher KYC level. On MTN: *170# → 6 (My Wallet) → the upgrade option; or visit an authorised agent or MTN shop with your Ghana Card. The Ghana Card is the document that unlocks the enhanced tier. On Telecel Cash and AT Money, dial *110# → My Account, or visit a branch with your ID.
'Limit reached': what to do
If you see 'transaction limit reached', you have used up your daily or monthly cap. Three options: wait for the reset (the daily cap restarts the next day), split the amount across several days, or upgrade to a higher KYC level to raise the cap for good. First check your remaining headroom by comparing today's transacted total to your cap.
