Frequently asked questions

What's the daily wallet cap?
RWF 10,000,000 (10 million RWF) for a fully KYC-verified wallet. All operations combined — sends, withdrawals, MoMoPay payments — count toward this cap. More than enough for nearly all personal and SME use. For business volumes, Tier 2 MoMoPay codes have higher caps.
What's the single-transaction cap?
RWF 2,000,000 per single P2P send on MTN MoMo. Maximum agent withdrawal is also RWF 2,000,000 per transaction (subject to the agent having enough cash float). MTN ATM depends on the physical ATM's API — usually capped around RWF 400,000-500,000 per ATM withdrawal, to be tested per ATM. For amounts > 2M, split into multiple transactions.
What are the KYC tiers?
MTN Rwanda generally offers several tiers: (1) unverified wallet — very low caps, sometimes a few thousand RWF per day, for transitional use. (2) Basic KYC-verified wallet — basic with Indangamuntu, intermediate caps. (3) Fully KYC-verified wallet — address and income source verification, maximum caps (RWF 10M/day). Exact tiers and their limits may be revised; check your status via *182# → My Account → KYC Status.
How do I step up to the next tier?
Visit an MTN Service Centre (Kigali: Nyarugenge, Kacyiru, Kimironko, Remera; each district capital). Bring: Indangamuntu or passport, proof of address (REG/WASAC bill or attestation), and depending on the target tier, an employment or income proof. The agent processes the KYC update on the spot; the new limits apply immediately.
Are the wallet cap and transaction cap different?
Yes. The WALLET cap is the MAXIMUM balance you can hold at a moment (RWF 10M fully verified). Beyond that, you CANNOT receive more until the balance drops. The TRANSACTION cap is the maximum per single operation (RWF 2M P2P send). The DAILY cap is the cumulative operations total over 24h (10M).
How do I check my current tier?
*182# → My Account → KYC Status. The screen shows your current tier, active limits, and the documents required to step up if you're not at max. You can also see the status in the MyMTN app under the Profile menu.
