Sending Orange Money from France and Europe

orangemoney.fr is Orange's Europe-to-Africa remittance arm — separate from the wallet you use in Africa. This guide covers the real tariffs, the free in-app deposit, and the FX question that decides the true cost: for CFA-franc countries Orange passes the exact euro peg with zero margin; for floating currencies the margin lives in the rate. All figures are quoted from orangemoney.fr and dated.

How much does an Orange Money transfer from France cost?

The send fee is a small flat charge by bracket, on top of a deposit step that is free in the app. Point-of-sale top-ups carry their own graduated fee.

Amount sentSend fee
€0.01 – €100€1.99
€100.01 – €950€2.99

Deposit: free in the app; at a point of sale in France it is graduated — €1.50 (up to €100), €2.00, €3.00, €4.00, up to €5.00 (€450–950). Fees vary by destination — Madagascar, for example, currently shows a €0 send fee. Withdrawal in the destination country is a separate grid paid by the recipient (see the country pages). Does Orange Money charge FX fees?

CFA-franc destinations: zero FX margin

orangemoney.fr states "1 EUR = 655,9570 FCFA — frais de conversion inclus". That figure is not a spread Orange chose; it is the exact fixed peg of the CFA franc to the euro. So for Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and every other CFA country, there is no exchange-rate margin at all — the euro converts at par, and the whole cost of your transfer is the visible €1.99 / €2.99 send fee. On this corridor Orange is genuinely transparent.

Floating-currency destinations: check the rate

For Madagascar (MGA) and Guinea (GNF) there is no fixed peg. orangemoney.fr says the EUR/MGA and EUR/GNF rates are updated daily and shows the recipient amount only at the validation screen — so the margin, if any, lives inside that rate, not in a separate fee. For DR Congo the corridor is dollarised: the site converts EUR to US dollars and the recipient receives USD, not Congolese francs.

Mid-market benchmark to compare against: 1 € ≈ 4,825 Ar (Madagascar, our feed — 3h ago). Orange reveals its own rate at the validation screen; compare the two before you send.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send from a French bank card?

You fund the Orange Money balance first (free in the app), then send from the balance. The deposit step is what a card or point-of-sale top-up feeds.

Is orangemoney.fr the same as the Orange Money wallet in Africa?

No. orangemoney.fr is the Europe-based sending service; the recipient collects on their in-country Orange Money wallet (or, for DR Congo, in USD). The fees and limits on this page are the Europe side.
