Namibia bank-to-bank transfer fees
Bank-to-bank transfer in Namibia: NamPay is the national instant rail (launched 2019 by PAN, supervised by BoN). Effective EFT and NamPay fees at the four big banks (FNB, Standard Bank, Bank Windhoek, Nedbank), with the BoN report as reference.
The NamPay rail
NamPay is Namibia's instant payment system, launched in 2019 by the Payments Association of Namibia (PAN) under Bank of Namibia supervision. It settles a transfer between any two Namibian banks within seconds, 24/7. The four big banks (FNB, Standard Bank, Bank Windhoek, Nedbank) are connected, along with Atlantico (BIC) and Letshego.
EFT vs NamPay — what's the difference
- EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) — batch settlement (1 to 2 business days), modest fee typically N$5-N$15 depending on the bank.
- NamPay — instant settlement, fee typically N$10-N$25 depending on the bank. Funds visible at the recipient within the minute.
- For urgencies (last-minute rent, deadline bills), NamPay justifies the extra. For a planned monthly salary, EFT does the job.
When a bank transfer beats eWallet
eWallet caps at N$5,000/day. Beyond that you must split into several sends (paying the flat fee each time) OR do an EFT/NamPay bank transfer if the recipient has an account. For an N$8,000 monthly rent, one NamPay (~N$15) beats two eWallets (N$20). For N$15,000 rent, an EFT beats three split eWallets.
