Can MoMo PSB receive money from abroad?

Updated June 2026 · sources: momo.mtn.com, momo.ng

Yes. A Tier 2 or Tier 3 MoMo PSB wallet (BVN verified) can receive inbound international transfers straight to your phone. Crucially, MoMo adds no percentage fee to receive — the only deduction on your side is the CBN's ₦50 EMTL levy on transfers of ₦10,000+. The cost you actually pay is built into the sender's fee and exchange rate.

The fee reality: where the cost actually sits

Receiving looks "free" because the recipient is not charged a service percentage — but the money has already been marked up before it reaches you. Two costs are hidden on the sending side: the operator's transfer fee, and the gap between the mid-market exchange rate and the rate they actually give. Comparing senders on the corridor is the only way to keep more of every dollar, pound or euro.

On your side (receiving)
  • No MoMo percentage fee to receive
  • CBN EMTL levy: ₦50 on inbound ₦10,000+
  • Tier 2/3 (BVN) wallet required

How inbound transfers reach your wallet

The sender chooses a service that delivers to MoMo PSB and enters your MoMo number (your MTN line without the leading zero). The transfer rides a partner cross-border network into your wallet, you receive a credit alert, and the funds are immediately usable for bills, airtime, onward transfers or cash-out.

Partner rails: MFS Africa and Saana Capital (momo.mtn.com); a Thunes real-time inbound partnership was announced in 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Can MoMo PSB receive money from abroad?

Yes. A MoMo PSB wallet at Tier 2 or Tier 3 (BVN verified) can receive inbound international transfers. The sender uses a partner remittance service; the money lands in your wallet and you get a credit alert, ready to spend, send on, or cash out.

How much does MoMo PSB charge to receive from abroad?

MoMo does not add a percentage fee to receive. The only deduction on your side is the CBN's ₦50 EMTL levy, which applies to inbound transfers of ₦10,000 and above. The bigger cost is on the sender's side — their service fee plus the exchange-rate margin.

Which countries can send to a MoMo PSB wallet?

It depends on the partner remittance network. Reported sending markets include the US, UK, Canada, France, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Israel and South Africa. The live list changes as partners are added — confirm with your sending app and with the provider.

Why can't I receive an international transfer?

Inbound international requires a Tier 2 or Tier 3 wallet, which means your BVN must be linked. A basic Tier 1 wallet cannot receive from abroad. Upgrade by adding your BVN and ID in the MoMo PSB app or via *671#.
