Airtel Money channels: deposit, withdrawal and coupon

Deposits to the Airtel Money wallet are free at service points (PoPs, Cash Points and Yas Stores) — you only pay to send and withdraw. For withdrawal there are two channels: the Cash Point (agent), and, for partner-bank customers, the ATM — for example BRED Madagasikara ATMs, the ATM partner. Withdrawal fees follow the bands in the table above.

To send to someone without a mobile money account, the coupon system lets the recipient withdraw the amount with a code, without a wallet. The per-operation transfer cap is 20 million ariary; above that, the send must be split.

Transfer to another operator (interoperability)

Madagascar has full, multidirectional interoperability: from Airtel Money you can send to the other operators (MVola, Orange Money, Airtel Money), routed by the recipient number's prefix. The rate for a transfer 'to another operator' can differ from a same-network transfer, so check the recipient's operator before sending.

Identify a number's operator with our prefix page (032, 033, 034…). Confirm the exact cross-operator schedule on the operator's site.

💡 Band-edge tip: sending 5,000 Ar costs 100 Ar, but 5,001 Ar jumps to the next band (300 Ar). Split large sends at the band boundaries to save.
Rates verified June 2026. Always confirm with the operator before a large transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Airtel Money fees to send money in Madagascar?

Airtel Money fees are banded by the amount sent (see the table above). The per-operation transfer cap is 20 million ariary. Tip: sending just over a band edge costs more — split large sends at the band boundaries to save.

How do I withdraw money with Airtel Money in Madagascar?

You can withdraw at a Cash Point (agent) or, for some partner banks, at an ATM (for example BRED Madagasikara). Deposits to the wallet are free at service points. Withdrawal fees are banded by amount.

Can I send to another operator from Airtel Money?

Yes. Madagascar has full interoperability: you can send to the other operators (MVola, Orange Money, Airtel Money), routed by the number's prefix. The 'to another operator' rate can differ from the same-network rate; confirm the cross-operator schedule on the operator's site.

How do I send money to someone without a Airtel Money account?

You can send via a coupon: the non-subscriber recipient withdraws the amount with a code, without a wallet. Fees follow the banded send schedule.

Are there inactivity fees on Airtel Money?

For MVola, yes: 2,000 Ar after 6 months without a transaction, 4,000 Ar at 12 months, 6,000 Ar at 18 months. A small transaction every six months avoids them. See our dedicated inactivity-fees page.

Is Airtel Money the cheapest in Madagascar?

It depends on the amount and band. Use the calculator on the Madagascar page to compare Airtel Money with the other operators for your exact amount.
