Uganda MoMo USSD Code: *165#

The MTN MoMo code in Uganda is *165# — listed on MTN Uganda's own "numbers to remember" page. Send money, buy airtime, pay with MoMoPay (*165*3#) and pull a mini statement (*165*8#), all without data. Careful: in Uganda *170# is MTN CallerTunez, not MoMo. Verified on mtn.co.ug, July 2026.

What is different in Uganda

Uganda has its own trap: *170# — Ghana's famous MoMo code — is MTN CallerTunez here. Dialling the "wrong country's code" is exactly how the confusion starts; Uganda's MoMo lives on *165#.

What you can do with *165#

TaskCode
Open the MoMo menu*165#
Send money*165#→ Send Money (works to mobile and non-mobile recipients)
Mini statement*165*8#per mtn.co.ug tariff page
Buy airtime*165#→ Buy Airtime — free of MoMo fees
MoMoPay (pay merchants)*165*3#
Send to bank*165*6#

Menu paths follow the current screens — if a label moved, follow the on-screen wording rather than a memorised path.

Forgot your MoMo PIN in Uganda?

MTN Uganda's tariff page confirms changing your MoMo PIN is free, but publishes no self-service reset path for a forgotten PIN. Use the menu's account options if offered on screen; otherwise contact MTN Uganda customer care or visit a service centre with your ID. Never accept "PIN reset help" from a caller.

*165# not working?

Wrong SIM. The code only answers on the MTN Uganda network. On another operator's SIM it fails or opens a different service — every country and operator has its own code.

Roaming (abroad). Most roaming partner networks do not relay USSD sessions: the code fails or times out outside the country. Use the MoMo app over data/Wi-Fi. To send from Europe to a MoMo wallet, MoMo Homeland is an app — there is no diaspora USSD code. Uganda is the one MTN market whose OpCo site explicitly addresses this: mtn.co.ug's tariff page states MoMo account access while roaming is free — if it still fails, the roaming partner is the bottleneck.

Account not registered. A MoMo wallet must be registered (with ID) before the menu accepts transactions. If the menu opens but blocks you, visit a MTN Uganda service centre with your ID.

Frequently asked questions

What is the MoMo USSD code in Uganda?
Dial *165# from a MTN Uganda SIM to open the MoMo menu. The code is verified on mtn.co.ug (July 2026). It only works on the MTN Uganda network — on another SIM it does nothing or opens a different service.
Why doesn't the code work when I'm abroad?
USSD travels over your home operator's signalling network. While roaming, most partner networks do not relay the USSD session, so the code fails or times out. Use the MoMo app over Wi-Fi/data instead — or, to send from Europe to a MoMo wallet, the MoMo Homeland app (app only, no USSD).
Does the USSD code work without internet?
Yes. USSD runs over the cellular network, not mobile data. Balance, send and cash-out work on any phone with no data plan — that is the whole point of the USSD channel.
Does this code show MoMo fees?
The menu shows the fee when you confirm a transaction, but not the full price grid. To compare send and cash-out fees in Uganda before you dial, use our calculator — codes live here, fees live on the fee page, and the two are linked.
