About the Euro
The Euro (EUR, €) is the official currency of 20 European Union member states and the anchor of one of the most consequential fixed-peg arrangements in African monetary history. The Euro is issued by the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and is the second-largest reserve currency after the USD. Two African monetary unions — the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA / XOF) and the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC / XAF) — peg their CFA francs to the EUR at the fixed rate of 655.957 CFA = 1 EUR. The peg has been in continuous operation since the 1999 introduction of the Euro, and replaced the prior French franc peg. About the Rwandan Franc
The Rwandan Franc (RWF, FRw) is the official currency of Rwanda, issued by the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR). The Franc is quoted in whole units; its theoretical 100-centime subdivision is no longer in use. Rwanda runs a managed-float regime and has built a reputation for relatively predictable currency management within the EAC, supported by tight fiscal discipline and consistent multilateral financing. MTN MoMo Rwanda and Airtel Money dominate domestic mobile money, and Rwanda was an early adopter of cross-border MTN MoMo interoperability with Uganda. For diaspora flows landing in MTN MoMo Rwanda, the published RWF rate typically sits within 1%-2% of the interbank reference. Rwanda imposes no specific government levy on mobile-money transactions, leaving the all-in cost of receiving notably lower than in neighbouring Uganda or Tanzania.
