Reverse a wrong Eswatini mobile money transfer

In Eswatini, reversing a mobile money transfer is possible if the recipient hasn't cashed out yet. Here's the procedure and useful window.

Verified June 2026.Tariffs and USSD codes confirmed against operator sources. No government levy on mobile money.

Reverse a transfer sent to the wrong number

In Eswatini as across Southern Africa, the reversal window depends on the recipient's status. If the recipient has not yet cashed out, the operator can freeze the receiving wallet and credit the sending wallet. Once cash is withdrawn at an agent, recovery becomes a civil dispute — low success rate.

  • MTN MoMocall 922 immediately, give the SMS confirmation reference number, the recipient number and the amount. Useful window is typically < 24h before cash-out.

Do NOT send a second transfer to 'make up for it' — a repeat to the wrong number loses double. Confirm the number before every send by reading the full name returned by the USSD menu before confirming.

Frequently asked questions

If the recipient has already cashed out, can I recover the money?
Recovery becomes a civil dispute. You can file a police complaint and try mediation, but the success rate is low. The operator window (cash not yet withdrawn) is by far your best chance.
Does the operator charge for the reversal?
No standard published fee for a legitimate reversal (proof of error). If the operator suspects bad faith (refund fraud attempt), the account may be frozen pending investigation.
