Chipper Cash in 2026: fees, markets and reality
Chipper Cash is a different shape from the apps above: it's a wallet / super-app — free peer-to-peer transfers across its network, virtual dollar cards and investing — not an open route remitter that pays out to any bank or wallet. After several rounds of cuts (2022–2024) it has retreated to six markets. Use it if you and your recipient both hold Chipper accounts in its markets; for open send-to-any-bank, the route apps above fit better.
Where Chipper Cash sends: the routes we cover
Coverage is checked route by route from each provider's own site — see the "will Chipper Cash work for your route?" check below.
How much does Chipper Cash cost? The fee anatomy
Chipper Cash's core model is free peer-to-peer transfers within its own network (Chipper wallet to Chipper wallet). Off-network sends and currency conversion carry fees quoted in-app, and it earns on the FX margin on conversions. Because it's wallet-to-wallet rather than open payout, treat it as a network you both join, not a rate to shop. Margins move daily; compare the app's quote to the live mid-market rate above before sending — the gap is the real cost.

Chipper Cash delivery & speed
Transfers between Chipper users are instant. Chipper also offers virtual Visa dollar cards for online spending. It's app-only and network-bound.
Chipper Cash limits & KYC
Wallet and transfer limits apply by market and verification level. Check your limit in the app.
Is Chipper Cash safe? Regulation & trust
Is Chipper Cash safe? Chipper is a US-registered money services business (state-level) with African e-money / payment-service licences per market. It is not a bank; balances are e-money, not insured deposits. Note the 2022–2024 layoffs and market pullbacks — it is a leaner company than at its peak, focused on its core markets.
Will Chipper Cash work for your route?
Works if : you already have a Chipper wallet and you're topping up another Chipper user in Nigeria, Uganda or Ghana — it's a wallet/super-app, not an open remitter (trust its Help Center country list, not the inconsistent "21+ countries" marketing pages). see the routes above →
- Need to cash out to any bank? Chipper isn't an open-route remitter — US users can send only to other Chipper users in Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana (wallet-to-wallet). For open cash-out to any bank, use a real remitter →
- Sending to a market it dropped? Chipper has retreated to six — Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, Rwanda and the US (Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and the UK are gone, 2026). For wider reach, see an open remitter →
- Trying to compare Chipper's rate against the route apps? You can't — it's a wallet/super-app, not a send route with a rate to shop. To compare real send routes →
Frequently asked questions
Can I still use Chipper Cash to send money to Africa in 2026?
Only narrowly: US users can send to other Chipper users in Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana. It's wallet-to-wallet within Chipper's network, not open payout to any bank or wallet.
Which countries does Chipper Cash operate in now?
Per its Help Center: Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, Rwanda and the United States. It dropped several earlier markets (incl. Kenya, South Africa and the UK).
Is Chipper Cash the same as a remittance app?
Not quite — it's a wallet/super-app (free P2P, dollar cards, investing) rather than an open send-to-any-bank route service. For open payouts, use the route apps above.
