Lesotho cross-network mobile money fees

Sending from a Lesotho wallet to a wallet on a different operator: here's how it works and what it costs.

Verified June 2026.Tariffs and USSD codes confirmed against operator sources. No government levy on mobile money.

Between-operator cross-network

Lesotho hosts 2 mobile money operators (M-Pesa ↔ EcoCash). Transfers between wallets on different networks are possible via the operator gateway — your wallet's standard send fee applies, and the recipient may pay a receive fee on some operators.

In practice, many Lesotho users sidestep the bridge by routing cash through a shared bank account or by withdrawing + re-depositing. That's not the cheapest option, but it's the most predictable when inter-operator gateways are flaky.

Frequently asked questions

Why no full interoperability?
Full interop between mobile money operators in Lesotho depends on commercial operator agreements and switching infrastructure. Central Bank of Lesotho pushes for more interop, but it's not yet at the level of Europe's TIPS or pan-African PAPSS.
