Philippine Peso to British Pound exchange rate history
About the Philippine Peso
The Philippine Peso (PHP, ₱) is issued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and subdivided into 100 sentimo. The peso is shaped above all by remittances: the Philippines is one of the world's largest recipients, with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) sending tens of billions of dollars home each year, so USD/PHP flows are central to the currency and the economy. The BSP runs an inflation-targeting policy and the peso floats, moving on US interest rates, the trade and current-account balance, and the strength of those remittance inflows. For most people the USD/PHP rate is the number that matters — pricing dollar earnings sent home, online purchases or travel — and it is quoted to two decimal places.
About the British Pound
The British Pound (GBP, £) is the official currency of the United Kingdom and the primary currency in which the UK-based African diaspora earns and sends. Issued by the Bank of England, the Pound is subdivided into 100 pence. The UK is one of the three largest remittance source markets for Africa, channelling several billion pounds a year primarily to Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Somalia, and Zimbabwe. After the 2016 Brexit referendum the GBP traded substantially weaker against both USD and EUR, which compressed remittance values when measured in either dollars or recipient local currency. Mobile-first remitters serving the UK-Africa corridor — Sendwave, LemFi, TapTap Send, Lemonade Finance — typically post a GBP rate within 0.5%–2% of interbank, with the fee structure varying by amount and destination.
