The Indian Rupee (INR, ₹) is issued by the Reserve Bank of India and is subdivided into 100 paise. India is one of Africa's largest trading partners — bilateral trade is on the order of $100 billion a year, having roughly doubled over five years — so the rupee is a genuine trade currency across the continent, not just a remittance unit. South Africa is India's single largest African trade partner, followed by Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya and others; the goods range from pharmaceuticals and refined petroleum to vehicles, machinery and agricultural products.
