Nigeria NIBSS Sort Codes (2026)
NIBSS sort codes for 14 major Nigeria banks, with verified head-office and branch codes. In Nigeria, every bank branch has its own NIBSS code (9-digit) — different from the universal South African system.
Codes verified June 2026. New branches receive new NIBSS codes regularly; confirm with your bank or the official NIBSS directory if a branch isn't listed.

How the NIBSS sort code works
In Nigeria, the NIBSS sort code is 9 digits: the first 3 identify the bank (GTBank 058, Access 044, First Bank 011, Zenith 057, UBA 033), and the next 6 identify the branch. NIBSS routes NUBAN payments and bank wires from one bank to another.
For incoming international transfers, you need the SWIFT code, not the sort code. See our Nigeria SWIFT directory.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my Nigeria sort code?
The code is on your chequebook, your bank statement, or shown in the mobile banking app. You can also check the table below: 14 banks covered, with their head-office code.
Why does each branch have its own NIBSS code?
In Nigeria, the NIBSS system encodes the branch into the sort code. This routes payments to the right branch for clearing. It's different from South Africa, where one code covers every branch of a bank.
Is the sort code the same as the SWIFT code?
No. The sort code (NIBSS) is for DOMESTIC payments in Nigeria. The SWIFT code is for INCOMING INTERNATIONAL transfers. Two different use cases.
